Dr. John Monk
Podiatrist - Mt. Pearl
I am always asked how I became interested in Podiatry as a career. Growing up in Arnold’s Cove, I don’t think I could have told you what a Podiatrist was (or even that the field of Podiatry existed), yet here I am.
I first became interested in Podiatry about a year before graduating from Memorial University with my Bachelor of Kinesiology. My mother, who has been diabetic since I was five years old, was told by her family doctor to see a Podiatrist. Her family doctor told her that foot health was everything for a diabetic – without healthy feet, it would likey result in the loss of her mobility and her independence.
That comment from her family doctor stuck with me. After graduating from Memorial University I continued my education in Ontario with stops in Toronto and Ottawa before returning to my home province to start my career as a Podiatrist.
As a Podiatrist, I spent my first 3 years in Clarenville, and the last 4 years with my amazing colleagues at The Podiatry Associates where I get to assist my clients in maintaining a healthy lifestyle by ensuring they have healthy feet.
